2007 is a vintage that was truly blessed. Vintages like 2007 provide winemakers an opportunity to reach deep within themselves and find the one wine in their career that might just be their best. The producers we've selected to represent this vintage know this all too well and will be patiently waiting the rest of their life to see how 2007 fits into their larger narrative. For some, it may turn out to be an outstanding year and one of their favorite vintages.
2007 offered one of the best growing seasons that Piemonte has seen in a very long time. A weather pattern of hot, dry days and cold nights let the fussy Nebbiolo ripen, to embody all the specific characteristics of its plot of soil, and to convey that ineffable Barolo terroir. It was the best of all worlds, and when you're talking about this weather in the hands of producers like Aldo or Giacomo Conterno, Bruno Giacosa, Massolino, Sandrone, or Paolo Scavino, then you're sure to have seriously stellar bottles of Barolo.
This week, I'm delighted to offer Barolos from some of my favorite Barolo producers in a really fortunate vintage. Great producers have no excuse not to have made a great wine, and we wine-lovers have no excuse not to stock up. These wines give us no excuse why not to enjoy them for the next fifty years. No matter which of these wines you choose, you're getting gorgeous bottles of wine, wines that show why Barolo is, was, and always will be the wine of kings and the king of wine. You've got every reason to indulge at least once.
