From the wild coast of Sardinia comes this wine, a product of a joint venture between the Santadi co-op and Tenuta San Guido, the makers of Sassicaia, guided by the hand of master enologist Giacomo Tachis. As you might expect from such an all-star, exotic line-up of winemakers, Barrua is an exceptional wine that defies easy classification. Crafted from Sardinian indigenous grape Carignano along with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Barrua has a full, gorgeous body that gives a seductive frame to this wine’s elegant, if quietly feral, palate. Dried plums and figs, warm spices like licorice and cardamom, and earthy scents of smoke and leather abound. Delicious, unusual, and drinking for the next ten to fifteen years.
