As a New World wine from Argentina you might be expecting an opulent, fruit forward wine with generous amounts of oak; the wine is in fact composed and structured, displaying the fragrant and nuanced red fruit flavors associated with classic Pinot. But there is more here, and this is truly a distinctive expression of Pinot presenting the influence of Patagonian terroir, which includes a dimension of earth, and, more specifically, minerals from the soil. The nose on the 2006 provides the seductive qualities that make Pinot Noir so alluring; musky red fruit, sweet spice and rose petals. On the palate, and with some recommended aeration, the wine opens to offer a lush texture that unfolds to reveal nuances of black cherry, currants, and graphite, which linger for a lengthy finish.

At a recent IWM tasting, we had the pleasure of experiencing the subtle nuances associated with the estate's three wines. The Cincuenta y Cinco in particular was noted for its approachability and depth of flavor. Similar to its sibling Treinta y Dos, Cincuenta y Cinco undergoes a rather long maceration period—a cold soak of 15 days followed by 1 week fermentation on its lees. The result is a spicy, aromatic, and balanced wine with a lengthy finish. Drink 2009-2018.
