Although its history is a fairly brief one, having only originated in the late 1990s, Castello di Rubbia is rooted in the celebration of tradition. The estates orientation is expressed most demonstratively, perhaps, in its efforts to restore the castle (from which its name derives) in accordance with its original construction. Rubbias wine program reflects its relationship to the regions past, as it is wholly dedicated to representing the Carso regions indigenous vinesTerrano (technically a subvariety of Friulis indigenous Refosco), Vitovska, and Malvasiaadmitting Cabernet Sauvignon as its only exception. Carsos terroir is marked by several prominent featuresunique red soils, dolinas (depressions), and chalky rock.
