With 1,750 hectares of grounds peppered with 21 individual guest villasfor “club members,” this is far more than a wine estate. Named for the13th century castle on the grounds, Castiglion del Bosco has beenproducing wine since the 1800s, although the results weretraditionally consumed by the proprietors themselves. Only recently,when an outside company purchased the estate, did production expand andappear on the international market.
Today the exclusive retreathere does not detract from the excellent quality of their wines.Fifty-five hectares are dedicated to vineyards for Brunello production,and Massimo Ferragamo just entered the scene as partner in ownershipalong with Marilyn & Corky Severson. With Ferragamo, best known inthe fashion world, the winery stepped up their efforts in the vineyardsand cellar, and enologist Nicolo dAfflitto now leads the team.
