Fattoria di Fubbiano Colline Lucchesi San Gennaro 2007 This charming, surprisingly firm wine comes from Northern Toscana’s organically maintained estate of Fattoria di Fubbiano. Mostly Sangiovese, the deeply scarlet San Gennaro also has some Canaiolo and Ciliegolo, though mostly it gleams with Sangiovese’s vibrant acidity and food-friendliness. Smelling like a walk through the Tuscan woods in September, the wine’s nose of frutti di bosco touched with cedar is complemented by its palate of raspberries kissed with grilled herbs. Drinking now—and through the decade.

The winemaking history of the Fattoria di Fubbiano estate dates back to the 14th century. Fubbiano's respect for its formidable tradition informs its modern productions, which reflect an artisanal philosophy and expression. The estate also pursues very specific viticultural ideals, adhering to an orientation that precludes the use of all non-organic products. This special sampler comprises three of their unique offerings, each of which is nearly impossible to find elsewhere, given the minute quantities produced.
