Bruno Giacosa Spumante Brut 2004, 750ml
Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto 2003, 750ml
Our Price:
$46.93
Our Price:
$157.00
Although Giacosa is one of Piemonte's foremost producers (of Barolo and Barbaresco), he elects to produce this 100% Pinot Nero spumante in Piemonte's neighboring region of Lombardia—formerly a part of Piemonte—specifically in the Oltrepo Pavese zone.
For those new to Barolo, this constitutes a premier cru. In the manner of Soldera's magical Brunello, it ostensibly appears like a very light, thin wine. In actuality, it is a mammoth production that will show its incipient depth in the tight, muscular character of its early wonder years. Like Gaja, Giacosa is often typecast, regarded as a pure, unwavering traditionalist. While his wines certainly exemplify the classic style of Barolo in their leanness and restraint, he is not absolute in his approach, as he operates in a state-of-the-art winery and utilizes stainless steel.
Bruno Giacosa Barolo Croera di La Morra 2004, 750ml
Bruno Giacosa Barolo Falletto 2004, 750ml
Our Price:
$182.00
Our Price:
$269.00
Made from the Croera plot in the village of La Morra, this Barolo is an example of the more elegant expression of Barolo, emphasizing more of the rose and cherry flavor notes than the darker hints found in other bottlings.
The "Riserva" is referred to as the "Red Label", since its normal white label is changed to indicate the prestige of the wine. To begin with, the Reservas are rare and limited do to their frequency of production. Giacosa only makes Riserva in stand-out vintages and will only bestow the Red Label on one Barolo and/or one Barbaresco in his portfolio in that respective year. Herein lays the advantage to buying the Barolo Falletto. ALL of Giacosa's wines are exceptional from this standout vintage, and because of the rules he established only one Barolo can bare the Red Label. The Barolo Falletto is worthy of additional ageing and represents historic Bruno Giacosa at its best, the wine has been made since the early seventies and remains his signature Barolo.
Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Asili Riserva (Red Label) 2004, 750ml
Our Price:
$399.00
This second cru Barbaresco comes from the first vines Bruno Giacosa purchased in this region. Here on this 10 hectares plot in the Asili vineyard (made famous by Ceretto and Produttori del Barbaresco), his strict grape selection generally yields just 250 cases. Giacosa practices long maceration periods that last over three weeks. However, the Asili generally receives slightly less time aging in both barrel and bottle, a choice that exposes more fruit. In the best vintages, this wine can bear the qualification "Riserva" on the label; Giacosa's Riservas are also distinguished by a red label. While it may be tempting to uncork this Asili now, patience will reward.
