A supple velvety texture carries a classic palate of bursting berries and cherries, anise and nutmeg, leather and earth. This ’09 is a harmonious, balanced wine that wafts with flowers and pine, and whose tannins hold its plump palate with a firm hand. Drinking for the next half decade.

At 183 acres, Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest estates in Burgundy. The 180-year-old, family-owned estate is one of the most committed to allowing their wines to express the unique terroir of Burgundy as well as each of its distinct appellations. Perhaps the best evidence to support that point is the fact that 60% of the wines that Drouhin produces are either Premier or Grand Cru, and if you remove their Chablis vines from the total, that percentage rises to 90%. Additionally, Drouhin produces nearly four times the number of appellations of most domaines. Consider those percentages with the knowledge that only 1.6% of wines produced in Burgundy are Grand Cru, and Drouhin’s dedication to their craft becomes more than evident. Drouhin enacts strict viticultural protocol in order to ensure high quality wines. Their entire estate is organic and they are one of the largest estates in Burgundy to be certified as such; additionally, the estate uses biodynamic growing methods in several of their vineyards. The estate believes that by growing grapes organically, by planting vines closely, and by engaging in various hand-farming methods, they ensure ripe Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes that embody the terroir of Burgundy. Drouhin’s wines embody balance and harmony. For decades collectors have sought out the wines of Drouhin for their highly desirable ability to age along with their tempting ability to be enjoyed in their youth. This is a rare combination of characteristics that are often considered mutually exclusive.
