Founded in 1979 by the Sardo family, La Querciola derives its name from the surrounding Piemontese forests. Within those woods lies the eponymous family estate, which inhabits four vineyards on 20 acres of land. The family always made wine for personal consumption, but it wasn't until Giovanni became serious about winemaking that the family released their wines on the market in the late 1990s. Winemaker Giuseppe (Beppe) Caviola, often called "the Dolcetto king," joined the family to help produce the La Querciola Barolo, Dolcetto, a Barbera-Nebbiolo blend and their Chicchivello, a blend of Dolcetto, Barbera and Merlot.
