The Mirabile estate is situated on Sicilia's southern coast in the region of Menfi. The climate in this location, relative to the rest of Sicilia, is fairly mild, as beneficent sea breezes enable the grapes to retain a desirable level of acidity. Menfi itself has quite the notable past in viticulture, as several Greek and Roman amphorae have been found in the region. Its DOC classification didn't come easy though, having been bestowed only in 1995 after an extensive study to identify the microclimates and the grapes most likely to thrive in native conditions. Regulations provide rather equitably for natives and the international set, a division that Mirabile honors and goes beyond in its portfolio. In the red category, leading red native Nero d'Avola and its international familiar, Syrah, are joined by the rarely seen Tannat, primarily associated with the Madiran region of southwestern France. The white line-up also suggests a penchant for the unusual in the presence of the Northern Rhone's Viognier, which joins the aromatic native profiled herein.
