A big, opulent Barolo that nonetheless holds all the earmarks of a Barolo, this cru bottling emphasizes the fruity sensuousness and silky tannins that Nebbio can provide. Sweet red and black fruit, exotic spices, cigar wrapper, roses and tar dance atop some of the silkiest, most refined tannins found in any Barolo from anyone.

Upon the death of Paolo Scavino, son Enrico assumed direction of his father’s estate, for he had been raised on Paolo's craft and viticultural philosophy. Unlike many other second-generation Piemontese winemakers, Enrico didn’t strictly abide by tradition; he implemented a course of modernization that included temperature-controlled winemaking and storage facilities. In 1998 after tinkering with protocol, Enrico began to age Barolo in both the international barrique and the traditional cask. He also extended the maceration period for his Barolos and instituted extreme yield restrictions in his vineyards. Enrico’s consistent revising of vinification and cultivation techniques—a practice that Scavino’s daughter has continued in her work at the vineyard—has served to position Scavino in the center of the international/traditional Barolo spectrum and to make his Barolos some of the most powerful, graceful expressions on the market.
