Situated in the village of Poggio Dan Marcello, Sartarelli commenced winemaking in 1972, following several years of selling its entire grape production. Its exclusive pursuit of Verdicchio is expressed through three bottlings, each of which reflects a distinct grape selection and viticultural choices.
Sartarelli is dedicated to realizing the Verdicchio grape's full potential, and winemaker Alberto Mazzoni achieves rare form in the portfolio's flagship, Balciana. Sourced from low-yielding, late-harvest grapes, the Balciana receives an extended period of aging prior to release. This intensive, high-quality regimen produces a particularly intense version of Verdicchio, marked by intense aromas of honey, hawthorn, and apricot. The aromatic profile realizes greater complexity in the glass, gradually revealing a musklike dimension and notes of pineapple, chamomile, quince, and hazelnut. Meticulous grape selection and traditional vinification techniques inform Tralivio, a wine that exhibits a surprising lightness in the context of substantive structure. The entry-level Classico achieves a textbook expression of Verdicchio.
