In 2001, the Valle dell'Acate estate-currently under the direction of proprietor Gaetana Jacono (of the sixth generation) undertook to revitalize viticultural efforts by a substantive replanting initiative. This effort privileged the growth of Sicilia's indigenous varietals, with primary attention accorded to Nero d'Avola, Inzolia, and Frappato. The estate's efforts to enhance quality received essential support from the area's dominant soil type, Milaro, which is marked by a base of calcareous sandstone interwoven with clay.
