A very silky texture conveys rich, dark fruits and subtle hints of earth and spice in this gorgeous 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin. As the name suggests, this wine is a blend of vigneron Alain Burguet’s very favorite plots of Pinot Noir. Produced from vines between 80 and 100 years of age, this cuvée Gevrey-Chambertin shows evident concentration, complexity and intensity. Made from organically grown grapes in a non-interventionist method, the wine is incredibly balanced and exudes a cool elegance and purity on both the nose and the palate.

Alain Burguet is a Burgundy producer who represents the closest thing to the mentality of a traditional Italian producer--strong-minded, wine-focused, and caring little for media attention. Beginning by renting out plots while in his teens, Burguet founded his Gevrey-Chambertin estate in 1964, and he ran the 19-acre operation until 2012, when he turned it over to his sons, Jean-Luc and Eric. Domaine Burguet has been organic since its inception, and it’s currently experimenting with biodynamic methods. The estate makes all its wines with non-interventionist practices as well, using only naturally occurring yeasts and fermenting without temperature control. The result is some of the most expressive wines coming out of Burgundy--and wines that are as value-oriented as they are delicious.
