A Note from Sergio
It's an old, old family, but Antinori is distinctly contemporary winemaker, earning a reputation for making wines that bridge the space between traditional Italian wines (which often present challenges to palates new to Italian wines) and the so-called New World style of wine (which often make wine lovers out of ordinary people). An Antinori wine straddles these two opposing banks with elegance, taming the strange acidic edges of a classic "Old World" Italian wine while taming the grape-bomb gusto of the international wine.
It's not an easy task, and it's one that many producers try to emulate. Few succeed. Antinori does, however, and the wine I'm releasing today, Pian delle Vigne 2010 Brunello di Montalcino, is a perfect illustration how they do it. This bottle lets you revel in this benchmark vintage earlier than most Brunello, but it still announces its home in its Montalcino terroir. Best of all, priced under $60 a bottle, it's a finely made Brunello that you get to drink early and often.
Along with this Antinori wine I'm presenting the latest Sancerre Rosé from Lucien Crochet. It's not really springtime without a solid, dry, salmon-colored rosé, and this 2014 bottling is exactly that. Finally, I'm very proud to present a tasting case of the fairytale whites of Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi, the prince of Venosa. These are wine gems that true connoisseurs "get"; I'm honored to sell them. Here's a side note, Alessia Antinori's personal project for the past few years has been renovating the Fiorano estate, bringing life to her grandfather's estate and bringing his wines back to life. Today's Fiorano tasting case shows how noble Alessia's venture is.
It's spring. Everything old is new again. Enjoy!
