Flash Sale - Who Says Cabernet Value Doesn’t Exist In Napa? Terroir, Prized Mountain Fruit, and Pedigree Begin with This Rising Star and 600+ Year Winemaking History. Best Pricing - 48 Hours Only!!
“Napa Valley enjoyed an extraordinary vintage in 2016. The bottled 2016s are every bit as viscerally thrilling as they were last year when I tasted them from barrel. Best of all, 2016 is a captivating vintage from top to bottom, with a bevy of stunning wines for every palate and budget, as well as a number of bottles that are destined to become icons.” –Antonio Galloni
Who says Cabernet Sauvignon value doesn’t exist in Napa Valley?! Today, for IWM’s Flash Offer of the Day we are providing the answer with an exceptional find from one of the rising stars of the region, and what makes this even more unique is the wine and the estate offer 600+ years of winemaking pedigree from Tuscany. That’s right, we are once again presenting Antica (that is Antinori in California, thus Anti-Ca), one of IWM’s signature Napa selections since we began carrying the wine ten years ago. On top of that, we are doing it with what is widely considered one of the greatest Napa Valley vintages over the past four decades – 2016!
Sure, Galloni stated, “Put simply, at this stage, 2016 is second only to 2013 among the top vintages of this decade so far… A year later, I feel the same way, except I am even more excited about the overall quality of the vintage.” But this isn’t just press hype, there is truth to this statement. In fact, we place the 2016s above the 2013s. It’s a classic year, with striking aromatics, depth, and energy; and finding relative values from the outstanding vintage is simply difficult.
Every year, right about this time, we are often asked, what are the rising stars of California? What are the must visits when I am in Napa Valley? Where can I find a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon that does not have to command Cult Napa or Grand Cru Classé pricing? The answer to all of these questions is Antinori’s off-the-beaten-path outpost in the Atlas Peak district - Antica. In our opinion, there are few stops as stunning in the whole winemaking region – it truly is as if a piece of Tuscany landed in the Napa Valley. This is not valley floor fruit located alongside the busy Highway 29, but rather a rocky hillside vineyard on Soda Canyon Road in southeast Napa.
Value and pedigree from this legendary vintage in the making begins (or in this case, ends) with 2016 Antica Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Mountain Select. This is a wine that commands more than $69 elsewhere, and at IWM’s Flash Sale price of just $54.99 when you buy six bottles or more, this is one of the greatest values in all of Napa.

Additional Notes and Reviews:
Here is a note from the Antinoris that captures this special place in Napa Valley, at which Piero Antinori and his family have been quietly producing wines since 1980. “Soprattutto is Italian for “above all,” and reflects Piero Antinori’s guiding principle when he selected the place for Antica Napa Valley: altitude. The estate is considered to be, above all, ideal winegrowing country. Piero knew that this property’s particular location—with its steep terrain, rocky, well-drained soils and high elevation—also offered great potential for growing quality wine grapes.”

Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “Tasted three times. This is one of my favorite stops in all of Napa – it truly is like a piece of Tuscany landed in the Napa Valley. And in 2016, the flagship wine screams Napa Valley Cabernet from the nose to the palate. But what makes it unique is its relative value and that it offers the generosity of Napa’s prized mountain fruit and marries it so well with some underlying structure and balance. There is tannic grip, spine and acidity to the concentrated fruit that makes the tongue curl and stains the palate for a lingering finish. Sure, there is black fruit here, but what stands out is the penetrating black cherry streak in this wine, coupled with notes of black licorice, cassis, ash, pencil, crushed rock, and spice cake. It is a classic expression of Napa Cabernet and offers some of the signature energy, depth, and restraints of the 2016 vintage. Guided by the same hands that touch Solaia, Guado al Tasso and Tignanello, there is an evident Antinori influence here that we love and appreciate. Fun wine now, but plenty of structure to age another ten years. When people talk about QPR wines – this is it. Where else are you going to find so much Napa Cab at this price point? Bravo!”
