Rare Fiorano Flash Sale!
August 7, 2018
A Note from Sergio

In my decades of working with wine, I can honestly say I have never had a more humbling experience or a more intriguing glass of white wine than the first time I got to drink the fabled Fiorano whites. How this came to be entails the dying wish a reclusive and eccentric prince and Italy's most celebrated wine and food critic--you can read the backstory here. The prince in question was the late, great Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi, and from the 1970s through the 1990s, his Fiorano estate made whites that showed a phenomenal ability to age. Difficult to get during his lifetime, the wines became even more rare after the prince, a member of the extended Antinori family, passed away.

As he neared the end of his life, Ludovisi tore up his vineyards to assure that his vines would not end up in the wrong hands. The prince then entrusted his private cellar to the iconoclastic wine and food writer Luigi Veronelli so that he could place the bottles with people who could keep his story alive. The prince's wish continues at IWM, as these rare Fiorano wines came to me from Veronelli, who has since passed away. When Veronelli presented me with the challenge of fulfilling his promise to the prince, I felt honored, and I have taken that promise seriously.

Today, I'm excited to present fifteen different bottlings of Fiorano's rare, mature whites, both the mystical Bianco, a Malvasia, and the magical Sémillon. Each of these wines is its own entity, labeled with its aging barrel, and each is an unforgettable journey to a long ago time and a faraway land, ruled by a prince.

Enjoy!
