Chateau Cos d'Estournel Les Pagodes de Cos 2016 750ml
Price: $74.99
Special Price: $64.99
Christopher Deas, Italian Wine Merchants: “Tasted six times. I earmarked this wine when I tasted it from barrel more than three years ago at the Chateau, and it has consistently delivered on its promise. It is a bottle that is so much more than a mere 'second wine' and is certainly more unique and interesting than many first labels in Saint Estephe (and beyond). The quality at Cos d’Estournel has improved so much over the past decade that it has trickled down to the second wine, with many taking notice and stating that the Pagodes is “equal to most estates’ top wines,” “a serious wine,” “top-class Saint-Estèphe.” It is true, you can even say that this second wine is better than many of the “grand vin” of the past. I actually preferred it to the controversial 100-Point 2009 Cos d’Estournel, as the 2016 sheds the over extraction of past years to reveal a more true sense of terroir, with the signature stony minerality of the estate showing through in the wine. But what this wine is all about is approachability, on the palate and in the pocket. It is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 46.5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 0.6% Cabernet Franc from old vines, averaging more than 35 years of age. The wine captures the vintage and is marked by freshness, energy, charm and texture (fine tannins with high acidity). Right from the pull of the cork the nose exudes stony minerality with both red and black fruits. On the palate you can expect nuances blackberry, black cherry, wild herbs, spice, wet rocks, salinity and a touch of smoke. It is a higher-toned expression of this wine, but packaged with awesome texture, tremendous balance, and a concentrated core hinting at what is to come. It is delicious today and another MUST BUY from the pinnacle vintage.”

Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac 2016 750ml
Currently Unavailable
Price:
$179.00
A stunning effort, Pontet-Canet’s 2016 flagship marries intensity with precision, savory elements with super-ripe fruits, opulence with brisk acidity, and relative approachability with extreme longevity. Fistfuls of crisp red and brambly blue fruits mingle with potpourri, cigar wrapper, licorice, underbrush, black tea, and pencil lead in a kaleidoscopic array of notes. Polished and powerful, this wine unfolds on the palate to show exquisite balance between its chewy tannins and vivid acidity, while pure, sappy fruits find their complement in a serious mineral core. This powerhouse Bordeaux needs a few years in the cellar, but it’ll drink for decades to come--it’s a wine for the ages! A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot in 2016, the fruit for this wine is biodynamically grown and hand-harvested, then it macerates for about a month, before aging for about 16 months in a combination of 55% new barrel, 35% cement amphora, and 15% neutral oak.

Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes 2010 375ml
PRE-ARRIVAL
Price:
$249.00
Supple, elegant and profoundly mineral, the ’10 d’Yquem reflects its dry, cool growing year in its sublime freshness and its terrific aromatics. Luscious stone and tropical fruits, crushed herbs, citrus zest, brown baking spices and steely notes dance in this wine’s entrancing nose. Sweet but never cloying, this wine suffuses the palate with keenly delineated kaleidoscopic flavors and lingers on its seamless, energetic finish. Château d'Yquem’s skilled pickers hand-select the vines’ fully botrytized fruit, and yields are so low that each vine produces only one glass of wine. Vintage after vintage, Château d'Yquem continues to set the bar not merely for Sauternes, but for fine dessert wines around the world.
