Delineated yet intense, lifted yet caressing, linear yet balanced, this benchmark Volnay bottling dwells in captivating opposites; it’s an age-worthy wine of outstanding beauty. Pure red and blue fruits dance out of the glass, supported by eucalyptus, crushed river rocks, violet petals, melted chocolate, peppery exotic spices and warm earth. A sturdy mineral core and vibrant acidity propel this ’15 Volnay across the palate, studding the cheeks with polished, fine-grained tannins. You’ll want to wait to enjoy this structured wine--it’ll show its true beauty with about five years of aging. This cuvée culls from the estate’s nine acres of Volnay Caillerets parcels sporting limestone and clay soils; the grapes ferment in small vats for about two weeks, and the wine ages in barrels (60 to 85% new) for ten to eighteen months.
