Welcoming but balanced, this ’15 Chianti Classico bursts with sweet fruits, bristles with acidic energy, and balances all its elements with grace. Peppery, chewy tannins stud the cheeks as this wine whooshes across the palate, building to a mineral-laden, powerful finish. Showing breathtaking depth, finesse and balance, this biodynamically grown and vinified Chianti Classico, a blend of 90% Sangiovese with the remainder split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, will make you reconsider everything you thought you knew about Chianti--it’s just that delicious.
Fontodi Meriggio 2015 750ml
Aromatic, elegant, and herbaceous, the ’15 Meriggio, a mono-varietal Sauvignon Blanc, frames its citrus, stone and tropical fruits with cut grass, pressed herbs, crushed river rocks, and white wildflowers. Quite lifted on the palate, this wine blends its bright acidity with savory minerals to offer a dry, balanced white wine that builds to a resonant, lingering finish. Deriving from Fontodi’s organically tended, north-facing La Rota vineyard, this wine’s Sauvignon Blanc grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine ages on the lees for six months, also in stainless steel. Just over 650 cases made each vintage.

Aromatic, elegant, and herbaceous, the ’17 Meriggio layers its succulent white flesh and orchard fruits with crushed minerals, candied citrus, and pressed herbs. The palate is nimble yet textured, animated by bright acidity and thrumming minerality, which propel the wine’s lingering, lip-smacking finish. Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico 2014 750ml
Fontodi’s owner-winemaker, Giovanni Manetti, has long considered Chianti Classico’s Lamole region special, and this wine proves him right. 2014 is the inaugural vintage of Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico, and the wine bursts with succulent cherries and berries, piquant minerals and herbs, and kisses of loam and pressed wildflowers. Bright acidity propels this intense wine, yet its fine-grained tannins cling to the cheeks to blanket the palate with a textured, silky feel. This is a very elegant Chianti Classico that showcases Sangiovese’s finesse, rather than its raw power. Deriving from Lamole’s 17-acre, sandy-soiled Filetta vineyard, the grapes for this wine ferment in concrete, and the wine ages in oak casks for 15 months before being bottled.
Fontodi Filetta di Lamole Chianti Classico 2015 750ml

Deriving from Lamole’s 17-acre, sandy-soiled Filetta vineyard that has rootstock dating back to the 1920s, the grapes for this wine ferment in concrete and in amphora, and the wine ages in oak casks for 15 months before being bottled. Just over 400 cases made.
Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2012 750ml
Opulent, complex and electric, this ’12 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a seductive wine that layers its succulent red and blue fruits with espresso, blood orange, licorice, wildflowers, savory herbs and leather. Bright acidity makes this wine almost crackly on the palate, but its super-ripe fruit and umami bass-line provide a riveting balance--it’s an intense, fleshy wine that’s still nimble and graceful. Produced from the best grapes grown on the property, this wine ferments for eight days in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by twelve more days of skin contact; after, the wine performs its malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, then ages in barrels for fourteen months before being bottled, where it ages for sixteen months. A bold, delicious wine that explodes with pure Sangiovese fruit, this ’12 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a delight to drink right now, but it’ll be even more delicious years down the road.
Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2013 750ml
A benchmark vintage with classic Tuscan weather and an extended hang-time for ripening grapes, 2013 gave the Antinori team the perfect makings for a beautifully structured, enveloping and expressive Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. This ‘13 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione glows a brilliant ruby red in the glass, and it layers its succulent wild berries and dark cherries with balsamic herbs, pressed wildflowers, salty licorice, crushed pencil lead, and warm, briary earth. This wine has impeccable balance, matching its electric acidity with copious dry extract, fine-grained tannins, and a nicely mineral core. You can enjoy this round and inviting wine right away, but a few years in the cellar will show the wine’s true beauty. Produced from the best Sangiovese grapes grown on the property, this wine ferments for ten days in temperature-controlled stainless steel, followed by twelve more days of skin contact; after, the wine performs its malolactic fermentation in oak barrels, then ages in large Hungarian oak barrels for a year before bottling.

Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna Del Sorbo Gran Selezione 2013 750ml
Arguably one of the greatest Vigna del Sorbo bottlings ever made, this mono-varietal Sangiovese knocks it out of the park with its purity, nuance and transparency. Red and blue fruits are framed with crushed flower petals, sun-warmed earth, baking spices, leather and licorice in this remarkable ’13 bottling. Caressing yet energetic, this wine complements its racy acidity with a velvety texture, and its chewy tannins, breathtaking structure and long finish suggest that this wine will age for decades. This mono-varietal Sangiovese derives from forty-year-old vines organically grown in the estate’s southwest-facing Vigna del Sorbo plot; the grapes ferment for three weeks with natural yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, and the wine ages in barrels, one-half new, for 24 months before bottling.
