Bruno Giacosa Barolo Croera di La Morra 2004 750ml
Bruno Giacosa Barolo Croera di La Morra 2004 750ml
Price: $225.00

It is the new single-vineyard Barolo from the legendary traditionalist, Bruno Giacosa, paired with Piemonte’s benchmark vintage of 2004.  With eight years of maturity, the wine is just beginning to show its elegant brilliance.  IWM is now presenting the wine with more than 25% in savings and is arguably the highlight of Barolo day at IWM. This effort combines the team of Bruno and his star enologist Dante Scaglione; when they are together, it is fair to say Nebbiolo’s finest expression is captured.  Made from the Croera plot, in the high altitudes of the La Morra commune, this Barolo is an example of the more feminine expression of Barolo, emphasizing more rose, cherry and underbrush notes than the darker more firm hints found in other bottlings.  Just 600 cases were produced.  After working the Piemonte vineyards for more than 60 years, it’s not everyday you see a new wine from Bruno Giacosa - it this one is getting ready to drink and is perfect for the Holidays. more info
Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2007 750ml
Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 2007 750ml
Price: $449.00

Bartolo Mascarello is perhaps most aptly summed up with his anthem, “No Barrique, No Berlusconi.” As much as it’s a political cry, it also epitomizes this producer’s fierce adherence to tradition. Since Bartolo’s death in 2005, the estate has been in the hands of his daughter, Maria-Teresa, who continues the old-school traditions of large botti, blending across vineyards, and making Barolo for the ages. A Bartolo Mascarello Barolo is simply classic: feminine in its youth yet growing more massy as it ages, perfumed with roses and violets, extraordinarily finessed and ethereal, and replete with that Barolo magical mix of frutti di bosco, tar, and terroir. The seductive ’07 offers a juiciness that’s unusual for Mascarello, but its linear structure, nuance and extended finish show the skilled, loving hands of its maker. more info
