A Note from Sergio

In Italy, the holiday season is a marathon of parties, celebrations, gatherings, and delicious foods and wines. From the beginning of December through to the first week in January, Italians celebrate non-stop. As a kid, the month-long series of holidays felt like a whirlwind of panettone, panforte, struffoli, and shiny paper-wrapped gifts. As an adult, I still appreciate the holiday-only food, but it's the wine that signifies the holidays to me. It's the glasses of bubbly that my friends and family raise together as we toast, wish, recollect, and appreciate. It's the bottles of Barolo we give to each other for Christmas. It's the many save-for-that-special occasion wines I open to show people I love them.

Every bottle of wine holds a special, singular experience, and the holiday season--more than any other season--embodies this possibility of magic, of wonder and of generous sharing. Today's offer compiles more than 160 different beautiful wines that I'd be proud to pour at my table. The catch is that there's only one bottle of each of these beauties, which makes every one a singular gem. Whether you drink these wines with your friends and family, bring them to someone's house as a host gift, pick some special bottles and give them to loved ones, you're choosing a wine that evokes the best of the holiday spirit: the gift of togetherness.

Enjoy!

Fischer Rose 2011 750ml
Fischer Rose 2011 750ml
Price: $23.45

Austrian rosé has appealing purity, transparency and aromatics that stem from its Alpine terroir, and this ’11 rosé from Zweigelt embodies this ideal. This dry Danube Rosé shows its altitude in its structure, and its stainless-steel vinification in its clear, pure palate. Salmon pink in the glass, this mono-varietal Zweigelt, an indigenous varietal that is Austria’s most popular grape, is fresh and juicy, laden with strawberries and herbs, touched with minerality and a zippy acidity. more info

Francois Gay Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2016 750ml
Francois Gay Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2016 750ml
Price: $139.99

Elegant yet feral, François Gay’s muscular Corton-Renardes Grand Cru is consistently a stunning wine. Animale elements mingle with primary red and blue fruits, along with secondary notes of worn saddle leather, crushed wildflower petals, baking spices, and pencil lead. A reliable favorite of Burgheads in the know, this Corton-Renardes abounds with chewy tannins and bright acidity that are matched by intense dry extract, so this wine always needs some time in the cellar before true enjoyment. François Gay’s "tête de cuvée," this Corton-Renardes derives from a tiny limestone and clay vineyard just above Corton-Bressandes, and it is a consistent hit with IWM’s Burgundy-loving clients. The ’16 Corton-Renardes delivers on the wine’s reputation, and the 2016 bottling is especially dense and elegant. more info
Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2013 750ml
Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2013 750ml
Price: $225.00

Intense, vivacious and welcoming, the nose of this ’13 Chambolle-Musigny Charmes bursts from the glass with a profusion of red and blue fruit, potpourri, musky earth, minerals and wildflowers. This wine is remarkably sensual, given the vintage and its youth, and its graceful tannins and exquisite balance pull you back to the glass. Just under a half acre, Pousse d’Or’s Charmes plot is small but mighty. This southeast-facing parcel sports limestone rock with thin topsoil, forcing the roots of the thirty-year-old vines to dig deep for nourishment. After destemming, the biodynamically grown grapes ferment with natural yeast in temperature-controlled tanks; the wine ages in barrel (one-third new) for fifteen months before bottling without fining or filtration. more info
Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala Granbussia 1974 750ml
Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala Granbussia 1974 750ml
Price: $799.99
Special Price: $649.99

Beautifully mature, the ’74 Barolo Cicala Granbussia revels in its tertiary notes, ethereal mouthfeel, and elegant refinement. Black tea, licorice, stewed plums, espresso beans, white truffles, and roasted game surround the wine’s dark cherries, iron flakes, and rose petals. Fully resolved tannins and lingering acidity support this Barolo’s mesmerizing mouthfeel; time in the glass allows this wine to open up and reveal its subtle, nuanced, and sneaky power. While Aldo Conterno sourced its 1970 debut Granbussia bottling from both the Colonnello and Cicala vineyards, in 1974, Conterno chose to bottle the two vineyards separately to craft a pair of complementary wines. more info
