Red Burgundy Flash Sale!
December 12, 2017
A Note from Sergio

Happy holidays to the Burgundy lovers in the house! Almost a decade ago, I decided to get serious about selling Burgundy. On its surface, this move might feel brash for a company with "Italian Wine" in its title, but the truth is that the line between Italian and French (or Italian and Spanish, or Italian and Slovenian, or even Italian and North or South American) had always been somewhat imaginary. For one thing, I'd stocked IWM's shelves with Champagne virtually from the first day we opened our doors. For another, winemakers have been borrowing protocol and stealing vine cuttings from one another for centuries. Why wouldn't I sell Burgundy? If it's authentic, delicious and real, it's a wine that belongs at IWM--and in your glass!

Today I'm delighted to announce a flash sale on more than 200 in-stock red Burgundies, both 750ml bottles and large formats. It's an embarrassment of wine riches--these are carefully sourced wines that articulate their terroir, traditions and typicity with loving care. I chose this list of Burgundy wines so that there would be something for everyone, and these wines range in style, price point, and appellation. Yet these bottles share one important thing: they're good enough to represent IWM. Mix your red Burgundy case (or more) and spend the holiday season sharing these fine wines with the people you love!

Enjoy!

Alain Gras Saint Romain Rouge 2009 750ml
Alain Gras Saint Romain Rouge 2009 750ml
Price: $34.95

Gras, is one of the most dedicated vignerons in the Cote, a man who tends to each of his vines as if they were all Grand Cru and a winemaker who built domaine through making wine from some of the finest located and oldest Village vineyards. A wine of both richness and elegance, the 2009 Alain Gras St. Romain Rouge offers aromatic notes of ripe cherry, violet, and a slight hint of sauvage and mineral; this silky wine coats the palate with rich dry extract and overwhelms the majority of super-refined tannins. Flavors of plum, cherry, and fresh boysenberry come to mind, and the St. Romain's mid-palate is deep and complex, but with fresh and vibrant acidity, and that lovely St. Romain flinty character, this ’09 feels lively and finishes beautifully with sweet but dry fruit. more info

Much to the opposite of the domaine above, Thierry Matrot has always been known for his nearly unrivaled ethereal whites. However, a close group of Matrot lovers realize that his tiny production of reds offers superb wines and great values. The 2009 Meursault Rouge is a wonderfully structured wine with a ripe and dense mid-palate of blueberries, plums, and cherries to accompany the hits of sauvage and spice that make Meursault Rouge unique and a far different breed that its close Volnay neighbor--and half the price of a similar quality Volnay! more info

Joseph Drouhin Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Proces 2009 750ml
Price: $119.99

2009 offered a picture perfect season for Véronique Drouhin and her father Robert, and this bottling of the Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Procès balances ripeness with elegance, reflecting the perfection of the vintage. The brooding nose of this wine offers brambly fruit mixed with chocolate, earth and spice; on the palate, this sappy, generous medium-weight wine echoes that blend, adding an herbal component, velvety tannins and a lingering finish. Joseph Drouhin owns almost half of the prestigious Les Procès vineyard, located adjacent to the equally famous Pruliers vineyard; just under an acre, Drouhin’s portion of Les Procès faces east, with excellent drainage and vines around 60 years old. more info
