Delicious Renzo Seghesio '12 Barolo Ginestra, Under $80!
December 27, 2018
A Note from Sergio

Though it has been growing grapes and making wine for more than a century, the Renzo Seghesio estate has run a pretty low profile. For a long time, the Seghesio family supplied grapes for Piemonte's most important Barolo producers; in fact, for decades the estate sold grapes to Domenico Clerico from its Pajana vineyard in Ginestra. But in the late 1960s, Renzo Seghesio took control of his family's estate with an eye to making his own interpretation of the great Ginestra cru. Renzo started making wines in his parents' garage, and his authentic, silky Barolo give an approachable spin to traditional Barolo.

Today, I'm delighted to present a new allocation of Renzo Seghesio's compelling and seductive 2012 Barolo Ginestra. Because Renzo Seghesio bends tradition in ways that give his wines earlier approachability, this Barolo Ginestra just about oozes out of the glass with richness and flavor. Coming from the historic Ginestra vineyard, today's Seghesio Barolo shows a modern profile, but it's so delicious that even hardcore Barolo traditionalists will love it--plus, it's under $80 a bottle, an outrageously good price on an outrageously drinkable young Barolo.
