Sparkling $22 Prosecco, the Bordeaux-Style Beauty of Vérité, Vintage Monfortino Magnum
December 29, 2014
A Note from Sergio

It's the Monday before New Year's Eve. The holiday season can feel like an amusement park ride: almost before it seems to begin, it's over. But a line-up of excellent wines can help us stay in the holiday moment--or prolong the holiday joy after this week is a memory. I've selected one of our favorite Proseccos from Col Vetoraz; it's an organic version of a perfectly typical Prosecco, and it's ideal for either your New Year's Eve party or your New Year's Day brunch. This wine will fill any sparkling gap, without stress and with great flavor.

Along with this $22 sparkler, I'm very pleased to present four very collectable wines. One is a magnum bottle of Giacomo Conterno Barolo Monfortino Riserva that's almost 24 years old! It's gorgeous and just entering its maturity. The other three are beautifully crafted Bordeaux-style blends from Sonoma. The Vérité estate was the pet project of Jess Jackson, trailblazing California winemaker, and these three 2008 bottlings of the estate's La Muse, Le Désir, and La Joie are extraordinary--some call them "perfect." This trio will find homes in some very happy collectors' cellars.
