Living in Italy, I fly back and forth to the States and across the US with great regularity. I rack up the frequent-flier miles, live on food prepared by the hands of strangers, sleep in unfamiliar beds, and I have a lot of time to reflect on why I'm living this peripatetic lifestyle, and it all comes down to my unshakable belief in Italian wine. I recognize that I sound like a zealot when I say that Italian wine embodies the profound beauty of human relationships to each other, to this planet, and to history, but I'm ok with it.
More than being ok with my messianic fervor, I want to share the love. This love provides the foundation for everything we do at Italian Wine Merchants. Whether it's educating people about what makes Italian wine special, showing them how to put wine with food to create a peak experience, or helping them build a wine cellar that will bring them joy on a basis that's daily, weekly, yearly, and longer, we're sharing our love.
Today is the day before New Year's Eve, so it feels right to tell you that love drives me to do what I do: love of wine, love of the people who make wine, and love of those of you who share my passion. Today, I'm very proud to present three wines that I love, and I know you will too. First, there is Antinori's cult Cabernet Franc Matarocchio; this 2011 bottling is exquisite--a big, delicious red with surprising delicacy and nuance. Next, there's a perfect bottle of vintage Sassicaia; you can't go wrong with this! Finally, there is one singular serious Nuits-St-George from garagiste Alain Burguet; Burgheads won't want to miss this bottle.
Cheers to loving what you do, what you drink, and the people you drink it with!
