This Meursault-Genevrières is a monumental wine. The complex, pure nose bursts with aromas of pear, lemon, orange, stone fruits of peach and apricot, a touch of hazelnut, and a lovely spiciness. Showing terrific concentration, stone fruit and soft citrus flavors that are underlain by a pleasant minerality, this ’11 Meursault-Genevrières offers great structure and a smooth, persistent, lingering finish. Latour-Giraud has the largest holding in Genevrières, whose name comes from the juniper trees that once grew alongside the vineyard, and some of the domaine’s vines on its 6.1-acre holding date as far back as 1951. This wine ages for one year in barrel, 40% new, before bottling without filtration.

Domaine Latour-Giraud has sat upon the Route Nationale in the village of Meursault for generations. Winemaker Jean-Pierre Latour, who took control of the vineyard in the ‘90s, has the reputation for being one of Meursault’s finest winemakers. His vines range over thirteen vineyards in Meursault, Puligny, Pommard and Volnay, where its holdings include an impressive range of Premier Cru and Villages vineyards, including the largest parcel of 1er cru Genevrières. Jean-Pierre’s devotion in the vineyards and in the cellar, combined with his old-vine holdings, has helped him better himself in every vintage, solidifying his reputation for tiny producing numbers of sublime wines that speak evocatively of their terrior.
