Lush, Explosive Poggio di Sotto 2011 Brunello!
February 18, 2020
A Note from Sergio

Poggio di Sotto is a very pretty estate. Housed in a stone villa, the cantina perches at the top of a hill. It's surrounded by flowers and blossoming trees, and its vines range down the hill in all directions. It's gorgeous, and all the flowers, the grasses, the trees and the sunlight itself seems to make it into Poggio di Sotto's wines. Open a bottle of the estate's Brunello, and you can smell the lavender, the chestnut, the poppies, and the many nameless wildflowers scattered on its property.

A Poggio di Sotto Brunello is a wine that I know immediately upon inhalation because every scent reminds me of that pretty little villa perched on the top of that hill. Today, I'm very delighted to present a new allocation of Poggio di Sotto's sublime 2011 Brunello. This wine embraces the lushness, the inescapable visceral pull, the unabashed seduction, and the sheer elegance of its ripe, low-production vintage. It's a dense wonderland, and you're going to wander in it for years to come.

Enjoy!

Open-knit, inviting and lush, Poggio di Sotto’s sublime ’11 Brunello revels in its combinations of sweet, super-ripe fruits and savory minerals, and full-bodied plushness and acidic energy. Fistfuls of sun-drenched red and blue fruits float on a bed of underbrush, potpourri, crushed river rocks, balsamic herbs and warm earth. Fine-grained tannins and elegant acidity meld seamlessly in this broad-shouldered, captivating wine. Crafted from biodynamically grown Sangiovese Grosso, the grapes macerate in stainless steel and oak tanks for about 33 days, and the wine ages for 48 months in oak barrique and eight months in bottle. With almost a decade of maturity, this wine is drinking beautifully. more info
