A Note from Sergio
Cinzia Merli of Super-Tuscan superstar Le Macchiole is a thoughtful winemaker. She says, "I spend a lot of my time thinking how to grow better Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, to understand their characters, to try to find the right solution for their issues." To make her wine, Cinzia says she uses "sensibility, attention, and respect of the characters," the same qualities she takes to raising her sons. Le Macchiole crafts wines that respond to the vintage because every year Cinzia learns something new, sometimes storing that information for years, other times implementing changes in order to coax the best from her grapes.
It's hard to argue with an Italian mother; she knows best. It's also hard to argue with Le Macchiole's wines--they're just that delicious. Today, I'm proud to shine a spotlight on the 2010 Paleo Rosso from Le Macchiole. This Bolgheri estate has always made elegant, finessed wines, but this '10 Paleo Rosso raises the bar, even for Le Macchiole. It smells like a walk through an Italian meadow in autumn, and it drinks like liquid silk. Critics have heaped praises upon this vintage, and in this case, they are not wrong. I managed to score a very limited number of bottles of this stunning '10 Paleo Rosso--don't miss out!
Along with this wine that my clients know and love, I'm delighted to present a new bottling that you can only find at IWM, Ferrando La Torrazza Erbaluce di Caluso 2012. This Piemonte producer works in indigenous grapes, and the Erbaluce is a white that sings of its hilly home. Ferrando makes the best Erbaluce available, and I can't wait to hear how you like this under $20 white. Finally, I'm very pleased to present eight gorgeous bottles from Bodega Chacra, the Patagonian estate of Sassicaia scion Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, all on sale. If you've never experienced these Pinot Noirs and Merlots, now is your perfect opportunity.
