Description Sub Region Producer Notes

The product of a warm vintage, this ’09 Bolgheri Rosso Superiore shows an opulent side to the usually reticent wine, and what we like about this Grattamacco vintage is its approachability and its structure. This bolder, more open-knit interpretation is packed with dense red and black fruit, licorice, and spice, all complemented with herbaceous notes and underbrush. Upon release, this wine was unusually plush and harmonious; now with more than five years of perfect maturity, tertiary notes thrum under the surface, but its lively acidity and chewy tannins keep it vibrant and youthful. A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese, this wine derives from vines averaging 20 years of age, grown in soils of calcareous sandstone, marl and clay. Harvested and vinified together, the grapes vinify in cone-shaped oak vats, and the wine ages for 18 months in barrique, followed by a year in bottle before release.
