Happy 2017! And welcome back to the working week! I know how hard it can be to go back to the office after the holidays, and the best way I could think to ease your transition was to offer some seriously excellent wine. The holidays can be as fast-paced as they are fun, and sometimes this means that you've forgotten something--or someone. Maybe you need to thank someone for a job well done, to show someone you appreciate their friendship, or just introduce someone special to new wines. I started the IWM wine clubs about a decade ago to help my clients express these emotions with gifts of wine, and for the next two days, I'm offering special pricing on six and twelve-month memberships to all four of IWM's wine clubs.
Coming back from the holidays also means looking at a depleted cellar. Below you'll find a pair of wines from Begali, a small family estate in the Veneto that makes excellent but affordable Amarone, Valpolicella and Recioto. Winter weather calls for wine that warms the heart and the soul, and few wines do that as well as Amarone. Begali makes two Amarones, and I've chosen the estate's cru bottling for today; it's under $80, and it's really good. Finally, everyone needs a go-to red, and Begali's Valpolicelli Ripasso is perfect. This wine spends some time on Amarone lees, which gives it a little extra power. I'm pretty sure that you'll love this $22 Valpolicella!
