Return of De Conciliis Gems, and Fiorano Flash Sale!
January 6, 2020
A Note from Sergio

If you're anything like me, you spent the past couple of weeks in a holiday haze, eating great food, seeing beloved friends and family, and sharing fantastic bottles of wine. Beyond giving us something to celebrate, the holiday break gives us time to disconnect. We get to shift our daily routines, close our laptops, put down our phones, and spend some quality time loafing, lazing, chatting, exercising, napping, and generally enjoying ourselves. It's much needed rest from the day-to-day grind.

With last week sidelined by New Years, you probably missed our eLetter offers, so it's only fair to give you another opportunity at last week's wines. Below you'll find a beautiful sextet of Campanian wines from De Conciliis (three reds and three whites) and a big list of Fiorano gems with special pricing. Your cellar is probably looking a little bare right about now. Today is a fantastic day to fill shelves and glasses with great Italian wines.

Enjoy!

De Conciliis Donnaluna Fiano 2018 750ml
De Conciliis Donnaluna Fiano 2018 750ml
Price: $21.99

Crushed river rocks, honeyed citrus, and white wildflower petals frame the crisp orchard and lush tropical fruits of this ’18 Fiano. Chalky minerality counterbalances the wine’s creamy mouthfeel, while a sweet inner perfume complements the dry, harmonious palate. Heftier and more complex than Pinot Grigio, wilder than Chardonnay, De Conciliis’ organic Fiano ferments and ages in stainless steel to better articulate its unique Campanian terroir; it’s one of our favorite value Italian white wines. more info

Big, bold, and mineral-laden, the ’17 Donnaluna Aglianico explodes from the glass in a shower of sun-warmed berries and plums, new leather, olive tapenade, smoky minerals, and pressed potpourri. Chewy tannins cling to the cheeks; keen acidity piques the palate; a sweet inner perfume teases the nose; and savory minerals linger on the wine’s sustained finish. De Conciliis crafts its Aglianico Donnaluna to be approachable early--it’s expressive, food-friendly and a complete delight. A mono-varietal Aglianico as of the 2015 vintage, Donnaluna Aglianico ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel and ages for a year, half in stainless steel and half in used oak. more info

De Conciliis Greco di Tufo 'Oro' 2017 750ml
Price: $24.99

From the high altitudes of Campania’s Cilento zones comes this riveting Greco di Tufo, a grape that loves the high life and the volcanic soils of the region. This delicious, food-friendly ’17 Greco di Tufo has a fruity and herbaceous perfume that invites comparison to Viognier, and the wine layers its bright citrus, ripe peaches and pears with pine nuts, cypress, and almond. A sweet inner perfume finds its complement in penetrating minerality and mouth-watering acidity, making it the perfect accompaniment for a summer seafood salad or pizza margherita. Deriving from volcanic, chalky soils, Greco grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine ages for seven months in steel before resting in bottle for three months prior to release. more info

A persistent minerality and fine acidity fill out the lingering, clean finish. Deriving from organically tended Falanghina vines grown in calcareous clay soils, grapes ferment for 20 days in stainless steel, and the wine ages in steel for six months, before resting in bottle for three months prior to release. more info

Fiorano No. 25 Bianco 1993 750ml
Fiorano No. 25 Bianco 1993 750ml
Price: $124.00

The wines of the late Prince Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi created a phenomenon for their ability to age. However, to ensure that his legacy would not be misrepresented, Ludovisi destroyed his vineyards, passing his private cellar to Italian food and wine critic Luigi Veronelli and entrusting him to find individuals who could keep his vision alive. This mission continues today, as the vintage wines have been left to Sergio by the late Veronelli. more info
