Red Burgundy Flash Sale! More Than 180 Wines at Special Pricing!
July 11, 2018
A Note from Sergio

About a decade ago, I decided to get serious about selling Burgundy. You might think this was a bold move for a company with "Italian Wine" in its title, but here at IWM, the line between Italian and French wines (or Italian and Spanish, or Italian and Slovenian, or even Italian and North or South American wines) has always been blurred. For one thing, I'd stocked IWM's shelves with Champagne virtually from the day we opened our doors. For another, winemakers have been borrowing protocol and stealing vine cuttings from one another for centuries. Why wouldn't I sell Burgundy? If it's authentic, delicious and real, it's a wine that belongs at IWM--and in your glass!

Today I'm delighted to announce a flash sale on more than 180 in-stock red Burgundies, in both 750ml bottles and large formats. These wines represent a recent chapter in my life's work, but just like their Italian counterparts, these red Burgundies are carefully sourced, and they were chosen for their ability to articulate their terroir, traditions and typicity with loving care. This list of Burgundy wines has something for everyone, and they range in style, price point, and appellation. Yet these bottles share one important thing: they're good enough to represent IWM. Mix your red Burgundy case (or more) and spend your summer sharing these fine red wines with the people you love!

Enjoy!

Lush red and blue fruits are layered with potpourri, gunpowder tea, wet river rocks, sun-warmed earth, and autumn leaves in this aromatically captivating ’12 Volnay. Vibrant yet opulent, this wine swaddles the palate with plenty of chewy tannins, coats the cheeks with copious dry extract, and finishes with a seamless harmony. Deriving from an old-vine four-acre plot lower on the Volnay slope, Joseph Voillot's Les Champans privileges fruit, power, and a decided sensuality. Domaine Ponsot Bourgogne Rouge Cuvee du Pinson 2012 1.5L
Price: $196.00

This ’12 Bourgogne marries its vivacious acidity with its silky mouth-feel in this outstanding bottling. Succulent, pure Pinot Noir fruit sits on a bed of sun-warmed earth, baking spices, a kiss of underbrush, and a sprinkling of crushed flower petals. Ripe and round in the mouth, this wine has the kind of driving acidity and chewy tannins that make it feel almost electric with life. Deriving from a 1.2-acre vineyard planted in 1975, the grapes for this wine ferment with only natural yeasts in oak vats for about two weeks; then the wine ages in used barrels for about two years before making the final blend and bottling without fining or filtration. more info

A very silky texture conveys rich, dark fruits and subtle hints of earth and spice in this gorgeous 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin. Produced from vines between 80 and 100 years of age, this cuvée Gevrey-Chambertin shows evident concentration, complexity and intensity. Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2013 750ml
Pousse d'Or Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes 2013 750ml
Price: $225.00

Intense, vivacious and welcoming, the nose of this ’13 Chambolle-Musigny Charmes bursts from the glass with a profusion of red and blue fruit, potpourri, musky earth, minerals and wildflowers. This wine is remarkably sensual, given the vintage and its youth, and its graceful tannins and exquisite balance pull you back to the glass. Just under a half acre, Pousse d’Or’s Charmes plot is small but mighty. This southeast-facing parcel sports limestone rock with thin topsoil, forcing the roots of the thirty-year-old vines to dig deep for nourishment. After destemming, the biodynamically grown grapes ferment with natural yeast in temperature-controlled tanks; the wine ages in barrel (one-third new) for fifteen months before bottling without fining or filtration. more info

Louis Jadot Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru 2012 750ml
Price: $299.00

Majestic, opulent yet still delicate and sophisticated, the ’12 Chapelle-Chambertin from Louis Jadot is a towering achievement. Ripe, rich cherries and berries waft with pencil lead, fruit cordial, saline minerals, underbrush, and spice in this broad-shouldered, energetic bottling. At once sappy and vibrant, this bottling shows tremendous structure, caressing tannins, and an extraordinarily long finish.
