Red Burgundy Flash Sale! More Than 180 Wines at Special Pricing!
July 11, 2018
A Note from Sergio

About a decade ago, I decided to get serious about selling Burgundy. You might think this was a bold move for a company with "Italian Wine" in its title, but here at IWM, the line between Italian and French wines (or Italian and Spanish, or Italian and Slovenian, or even Italian and North or South American wines) has always been blurred. For one thing, I'd stocked IWM's shelves with Champagne virtually from the day we opened our doors. For another, winemakers have been borrowing protocol and stealing vine cuttings from one another for centuries. Why wouldn't I sell Burgundy? If it's authentic, delicious and real, it's a wine that belongs at IWM--and in your glass!

Today I'm delighted to announce a flash sale on more than 180 in-stock red Burgundies, in both 750ml bottles and large formats. These wines represent a recent chapter in my life's work, but just like their Italian counterparts, these red Burgundies are carefully sourced, and they were chosen for their ability to articulate their terroir, traditions and typicity with loving care. This list of Burgundy wines has something for everyone, and they range in style, price point, and appellation. Yet these bottles share one important thing: they're good enough to represent IWM. Mix your red Burgundy case (or more) and spend your summer sharing these fine red wines with the people you love!

Enjoy!

Brambly berries, juicy cherries, and light citrus rest on a foundation of earth, musk, and spice in this nicely brooding wine. Deriving from Louis Jadot’s holdings in Marsannay, the northernmost commune of the Côte d’Or, this village-level wine ferments in wooden vats; it then ages for 15 months in barriques before bottling. A deeply food-friendly Pinot Noir that’s a good accompaniment to gamy or marinated meats, this Marsannay offers telltale sauvage, firm tannins and a supple mouth-feel; enjoyable both young and with some age, this village wine is a fantastic value. more info

A bit on the feral, sauvage side, this ’14 Clos du Château Rouge holds its juicy red and blue fruits with a brooding grip, flanking them with menthol, oak, underbrush and earth. Fine-grained, polished tannins, a sweet inner perfume, and a layered, nuanced finish complete the experience of this stellar Pinot Noir bottling. The grapes for this wine enjoy temperature-controlled fermentation, and the wine ages in barrel for 14 to 18 months before bottling. Chassagne Rouge lives in the shadows of the whites but these wines should certainly get more attention as they offer remarkable freshness, complexity and elegance. more info

This is an unabashedly food-friendly red that pulls your ears to the glass with its beguiling aromatics, silky mouth-feel and robust personality. Vibrant acidity and a spicy palate make this bottling very food-friendly. Grapes ferment in tank for about a month, and the wine ages in barrels for twelve to fifteen months before bottling. more info

Pure red and blue fruits dance with crushed flowers, cloves and other warm baking spices, freshly tilled earth and a kiss of sauvage in this velvety, textured wine. This ’12 Gevrey-Chambertin is delicate yet deceptively powerful, and it offers chewy, sophisticated tannins and a lingering, caressing finish. “Combe aux Moines” translates to “the monk’s comb,” but its name refers to the spot for assignations between local monks and local village women, and the wine is as beguiling as its name suggests. This wine derives from vines that average 60 years of age grown in soils rich in limestone and clay, and it ages entirely in used oak. Just 350 cases produced. more info

A very silky texture conveys rich, dark fruits and subtle hints of earth and spice in this gorgeous 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin. As the name suggests, this wine is a blend of vigneron Alain Burguet’s very favorite plots of Pinot Noir. Produced from vines between 80 and 100 years of age, this cuvée Gevrey-Chambertin shows evident concentration, complexity and intensity. Made from organically grown grapes in a non-interventionist method, the wine is incredibly balanced and exudes a cool elegance and purity on both the nose and the palate. more info

Red and blue fruits, river rocks, fresh-cut herbs, eucalyptus and wildflowers mingle in the nose of this precise ’13 d’Audignac. As is typical of the vintage, this wine needs a little time in the cellar to show its full potential, but it’s beautifully balanced, offering nice minerality and gorgeous fine-grained tannins. Just under two acres, this monopole, planted in 1966, faces northeast and sports soil that maxes limestone marl with clay; it’s a sloped site that offers ideal drainage, minerality and permeability for the vines’ roots. After destemming, the biodynamically grown grapes ferment with natural yeast in temperature-controlled tanks; the wine ages in barrel (30% new) for eighteen months before bottling without fining or filtration. more info
