Celebrating the Benchmark 2015 Burgundy Vintage with Special Pricing!
July 13, 2017
A Note from Sergio

On its surface, it can feel counterintuitive that a stressful environment creates great wines. It would seem to follow that an easy-going, perfect growing year would give producers the best raw materials for great wines. And this is certainly true. Take the 2013 Super Tuscans, for example; that classic, textbook growing year was free of stress, and it led to a benchmark vintage. However, grape vines are, in some ways, a lot like people. Presented with the right challenges, they rise to great heights, fulfilling their promise in creating lasting testaments to their environments and their essential natures. In other words, sometimes a stress is a good thing for wine, and this is exactly the case for 2015 Burgundy, a vintage that's shaping up to be epic.

My heart belongs to Italy, but that doesn't mean I don't have room to love French wines--especially the 2015 vintage from Burgundy. Today, I'm very happy to present more than 60 of these recent '15 Burgundy releases, all at special pricing. Some wines are in stock, others are pre-arrival, but all of them were handpicked by me and my staff. You'll find both white and red Burgundies, coming from both large, famous vignerons and smaller, under-the-radar "insider" estates. Burgundy lovers are a unique breed. They tend to know their wines, and their ready to debate the finer points of terroir, elevage, and vintage variation. One thing that every Burghead will agree on is this: the 2015 Burgundies are not to be missed. They're the product of just enough stress, and they are stupendous.

Domaine Gallois Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2015 750ml
Domaine Gallois Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2015 750ml
Price: $76.99

Juicy red and blue fruits, sun-warmed earth, baking spices, blue wildflowers, and underbrush burst from the glass in this beautifully structured, approachable ’15 Gevrey-Chambertin. Crafted from 14 parcels located primarily south of the village of Gevrey, this wine derives from vines averaging nearly 45 years, with some as old as 80, fermented with some whole clusters. Drinking incredibly well for a village-level wine, this ’15 Gevrey-Chambertin is caressing and balanced, and it offers a long, lingering finish. It’s in a great place now to enjoy while you wait for your premier and grand crus to age; fewer than 800 cases made. more info
