Super Single Bottle Flash Sale!
July 17, 2018
A Note from Sergio

What does it mean when we talk about someone for having a well-rounded wine cellar? Does it mean owning one bottle of everything? Does it mean owning wines from a wide variety of countries, regions and vintages? Or does it mean something else?

To me, the well-rounded wine cellar is one that includes producers whose winemaking traditions and philosophies are different--sometimes strikingly so. They may be wines made by resolute traditionalists like Bruno Giacosa or Etienne Sauzet, by globe-trotting super-modernists like Roberto Voerzio, Alvaro Palacios, or Angelo Gaja. A well-rounded cellar would also include wines from bigger cult producers like Tua Rita, Hubert Lignier, and Castello dei Rampolla, as well as lesser-known names like Miani, Chavy-Chouet, and Château Maltroye. It would, in other words, embrace the known and the new, the grand and the modest, the marquee and the boutique.

And, of course, a well-rounded cellar would have wines for lunch, brunch and dinner; wines for any night of the week as well as wines for special occasions; and wines for when you're dining with an old friend and wines for when you're doing something radically new. Today, I'm delighted to give you the chance to find wines for all these scenarios with one offer: IWM's Super Single Flash Sale. There are 180 wines, and they're all different. Mix a case or two, cellar them, and feel the satisfaction of knowing that you're set for whatever life--or your palate--throws at you!

Enjoy!

Fischer Rose 2011 750ml
Fischer Rose 2011 750ml
Price: $23.45

Austrian rosé has appealing purity, transparency and aromatics that stem from its Alpine terroir, and this ’11 rosé from Zweigelt embodies this ideal. This dry Danube Rosé shows its altitude in its structure, and its stainless-steel vinification in its clear, pure palate. Salmon pink in the glass, this mono-varietal Zweigelt, an indigenous varietal that is Austria’s most popular grape, is fresh and juicy, laden with strawberries and herbs, touched with minerality and a zippy acidity. more info

[PRIMA] Terra (Walter De Batte) Cerico 2007 750ml
[PRIMA] Terra (Walter De Batte) Cerico 2007 750ml
Price: $79.99

Whatever you expect from a Liguria Rosso, we can assure you that Walter de Batte’s Cerico, a blend of Grenache that’s kissed with Syrah, will defy it—deliciously. This is no light-hearted seaside quaffer; this is a serious wine whose sauvage flavor profile of juicy cherries, ripe berries, underbrush and meat will bring to mind a fine Hermitage. Not only does the estate craft only about 130 cases a year of this wine, but also very little of this game-changing Rosso makes it out of Italy. They are wines for true connoisseurs of Italian winemaking expertise. more info
La Castellada Chardonnay Collio 2000

Friuli's answer to a White Burgundy, a firmly-textured Chardonnay revealing a hint of minerality and a forward-leaning helping of ripe fruit on the palate. more info
Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo 2001 750ml
Castello dei Rampolla Vigna d'Alceo 2001 750ml
Price: $249.00

Upon its release, the ’01 Vigna d’Alceo was called one of the greatest vintages, lauded for its beauty, focus, breadth and aromatic; almost two decades later, this wine is proving the mettle of that praise. It’s rare to find a wine that can match its sheer power with unmistakable finesse, but the ’01 Vigna d’Alceo, for all its muscularity, glides with a boxer’s grace, melding its sweet red and blue fruits with tarry earth, warm spices, potpourri, grilled herbs, black tea and licorice. Surprisingly ethereal for a Super Tuscan, this wine seems to float in the mouth, yet it’s also remarkably dense and complex, unfolding myriad layers as it coasts to a lingering, structured finish. A Bordeaux-style blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon with 15% Petit Verdot, this biodynamic Super Tuscan ferments with only natural yeasts and ages for a year in barrique followed by 18 to 24 months in bottle before release. more info

Bruno Giacosa Barolo Le Rocche Falletto Riserva 2008 750ml
Bruno Giacosa Barolo Le Rocche Falletto Riserva 2008 750ml
Price: $479.99

Intense yet ethereal, delicately aromatic yet massively structured, and rich yet finessed, the ’08 Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva wafts with pure Nebbiolo fruit layered with rose and violet petals, licorice, forest floor, citrus zest, pipe tobacco and warm baking spices. A stunning wine with a soaring structure, this Barolo Riserva boasts chewy tannins that cling to the cheeks, a lingering, persistent finish, and a weightless, ethereal mouth-feel, characteristics that put it among the very best Barolos. Deriving from just four rows of the oldest vines situated at the vineyard's apex, Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto Riserva's elegant profile is like no other. Giacosa makes this Riserva from older vines and ages it for an additional time, to intensify, refine and elevate the drinking experience. The child of a classic, cool vintage, this ’08 Barolo Riserva is a wine that needs some patience in the cellar, but it’ll be gorgeous with time. more info
Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala Granbussia 1974 750ml
Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Cicala Granbussia 1974 750ml
Price: $799.99

Beautifully mature, the ’74 Barolo Cicala Granbussia revels in its tertiary notes, ethereal mouthfeel, and elegant refinement. Black tea, licorice, stewed plums, espresso beans, white truffles, and roasted game surround the wine’s dark cherries, iron flakes, and rose petals. Fully resolved tannins and lingering acidity support this Barolo’s mesmerizing mouthfeel; time in the glass allows this wine to open up and reveal its subtle, nuanced, and sneaky power. While Aldo Conterno sourced its 1970 debut Granbussia bottling from both the Colonnello and Cicala vineyards, in 1974, Conterno chose to bottle the two vineyards separately to craft a pair of complementary wines. more info
