Red Burgundy Flash Sale! Take 20% Off a Half-Case or More!
June 26, 2019
A Note from Sergio

Today's eLetter announces a terrific flash sale on more than 170 in-stock red Burgundies, in both regular-sized bottles and large formats. IWM has been selling Burgundy for about a decade, so these wines represent a recent chapter in my life's work, but just like their Italian counterparts, my team and I sourced these red Burgundies with care. We chose these wines for their ability to articulate their terroir, traditions, and typicity--and we keep these bottles in our temperature-controlled cellars to ensure that they stay as fine, fresh, and perfect as possible.

I believe that wine-lovers should enjoy a spectrum of wines, and I believe that every meal and every moment call for their own special bottles. This list of Burgundy wines has something for every occasion, and these wines range in style, price point, and appellation. Yet these bottles share one important thing: they're good enough to represent IWM. Mix your red Burgundy half-case (or more) and spend your summer sharing these fine wines with the people you love!

Enjoy!

This pretty, winsome, sappy red comes from vines that are sixty or more years old, something that helps to explain this Bourgogne’s earthy mid-palate and its age-worthiness, though the near-perfect ’09 vintage and the hands of legendary winemaker Pascal Lechaux help too. An evocative wine from a hundred-and-fifty-year-old estate that has long been a benchmark in Vosne-Romanée, this juicy yet nuanced Pinot Fin, the grape that is the original clone of Burgundy’s Pinot Noir, is strewn with flowers and shot with petrichor. Cellar for a year and then drink for a decade, likely longer. more info

Louis Jadot Marsannay Rouge 2012 750ml
Price: $39.99

Brambly berries, juicy cherries, and light citrus rest on a foundation of earth, musk, and spice in this nicely brooding wine. Deriving from Louis Jadot’s holdings in Marsannay, the northernmost commune of the Côte d’Or, this village-level wine ferments in wooden vats; it then ages for 15 months in barriques before bottling. A deeply food-friendly Pinot Noir that’s a good accompaniment to gamy or marinated meats, this Marsannay offers telltale sauvage, firm tannins and a supple mouth-feel; enjoyable both young and with some age, this village wine is a fantastic value. more info

Delicious, juicy red and blue fruits dance with warm baking spices, freshly tilled earth, and crushed dried flowers in this energetic, broad-shouldered and rustic ’12 Pommard. This is an unabashedly food-friendly red that pulls your ears to the glass with its beguiling aromatics, silky mouth-feel and robust personality. Vibrant acidity and a spicy palate make this bottling very food-friendly. Grapes ferment in tank for about a month, and the wine ages in barrels for twelve to fifteen months before bottling. more info

This perfect expression of this great Burgundy estate’s terroir, this elegant and decadent red offers a dancer’s grace--and a dancer’s power. Showing lovely red berry in the nose and on the palate that’s balanced with silky tannins and a compelling minerality, this wine offers a deep core of fruit that explodes on the palate and lingers for at least a minute later.  One of the very finest Chassagnes on the market, and one of the most sought-after. more info

Coming from a pretty, sloping vineyard, this premiere cru embodies the subtle beauty of Nuitonne Côte. Gamey at first on the nose, once this ’08 breathes, it throws a delicious bouquet of ripe brambly fruit and flowers. Juicy strawberries, cassis and blackberries dance on the palate, where these notes are joined by fresh-cut herbs, a handful of earth, a good dash of pepper and baking spices, and brisk acidity. Fresh, pure and drinking to the end of the next decade. more info

A very silky texture conveys rich, dark fruits and subtle hints of earth and spice in this gorgeous 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin. As the name suggests, this wine is a blend of vigneron Alain Burguet’s very favorite plots of Pinot Noir. Produced from vines between 80 and 100 years of age, this cuvée Gevrey-Chambertin shows evident concentration, complexity and intensity. Made from organically grown grapes in a non-interventionist method, the wine is incredibly balanced and exudes a cool elegance and purity on both the nose and the palate. more info

Daniel Rion Nuits Saint Georges Les Hauts Pruliers 1er Cru 2012 750ml
Price: $89.99

Rustic yet elegant, Daniel Rion’s ’12 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Hauts Pruliers leaps from the glass with an explosion of juicy red and brambly blue fruits, sous de bois, exotic spices, warm earth, mentholated herbs, and a touch of blood orange. Silky, fine-grained tannins snuggle the palate, while the wine’s sweet inner perfume finds its complement in a thrumming mineral bass line. Vibrant and sexy, this is pure Nuits-Saint-Georges enjoyment. Deriving from the estate’s 1.2-acre Les Hauts Pruliers plot of 40-year-old vines grown in steeply pitched, stony, clayey and limestone-rich soils, grapes macerate in temperature-controlled tanks, and the wine ages for fifteen to eighteen months in barrel, 30% to 80% new. more info
Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Ronceret 2011 750ml
Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Ronceret 2011 750ml
Price: $92.99

Profoundly dense and rich, this ’11 Volnay is approachable and filled with sweet, ripe fruit, blending energy with a brooding profile, firm structure with elegance, and fine tannins with sauvage notes. This massive wine will certainly get better with time, but the its black and blue fruits, nuances of anise, violets, and wildflowers make this incredibly tempting to open now. A three-acre parcel of 25-year-old vines in very poor, very stony soil, Ronceret sits just under Champans; it’s the bottling its maker calls “My baby.” With its brambly fruits, exotic spices, rich earth, firm minerality and complex texture, his ’11 Ronceret is a palate-staining Burgundy that’s pure physical pleasure to drink, from its aromatic nose to its pyrotechnic finish. Just 100 cases made. more info
