Today marks a rare special collector’s offer – in fact, we are only allocated five to eight of these assortments cases each year. Unfortunately, with allocations down dramatically in 2019, we were allocated a mere three cases. It is the official Bordeaux Collection Assortment from Groupe Duclot – the historic and well-respected Bordeaux negociant and shipper that began in 1886 and is now owned and operated by the Moueix family. Each year through their close relationships with the Châteaux, they create this limited edition, hand crafted collector’s case (9 bottles).
As the picture in this email demonstrates, the 2018 assortment is a luxurious, handcrafted wooden case of nine bottles containing one bottle each of the following

The past two weeks have been important ones if you appreciate Grand Cru Classe Bordeaux delivered with the best possible pricing -- and from a vaunted vintage in the making. As you may have heard by now, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, James Suckling, Wine Spectator, Decanter Magazine, Jeb Dunnuck, Antonio Galloni and IWM have all indicated that 2019 Bordeaux is another great vintage that can often challenge and surpass many releases from the modern-day benchmarks of 2015, 2016, and 2018. This is not unusual, there are typically three to four great vintages in a decade – just look at the last decade with 2000, 2003, 2005, and 2009. For IWM, after tasting dozens of wines from barrel this past month, we believe Neal Martin said it best, “Two thousand and nineteen is a great vintage. I know. Boring. But my job is to tell it as it is, and that is what it is. It is an excellent vintage… I believe that the 2019s are not only stylistically very different from the more powerful 2018s but generally display much more elegance and will probably become more renowned.” " But it goes beyond the critics, there are plenty of reasons that Eric Kohler of Lafite-Rothschild believes they have one of their finest modern day expressions to date, “Our gutfeel is that just as there will always be a discussion between 2009 and 2010, that we will have the same between 2018 and 2019; 2018 being closer to 2009, and 2019 being closer to 2010.” Most importantly, it is a vintage of approachability on the palate and in the pocket.
