Back By Client Demand: Acclaimed Livio Sassetti Pertimali 2015 Brunello
March 3, 2020
A Note from Sergio

Montalcino, Brunello's home, boasts innumerable microclimates--every side of each hill, every step in elevation, every shift in soil provides something new and different to its Sangiovese Grosso vines and berries as they grow. The Brunello Consorzio, the wine's ruling body, breaks the entire Brunello production zone into 24 distinct microclimates, and that's a useful map. North of Montalcino itself, you'll find the subzones of Canalicchio, Pianelli, and Montosoli. Here, the high elevation of the central region begins to taper off and flatten out, and the land forms a kind of plain studded with hills. These subzones get a moderate share in the warm, dry Mediterranean climate and high altitude of their neighbors to the south, but the region's slight differences in temperature, humidity, and elevation create Brunello wines that marry ripeness with structure.

These traits exemplify the wines of Livio Sassetti Pertimali, which show a beautiful union of serious aromatics and structural elegance with earthy power and juicy fruits. In a landmark Brunello vintage like 2015, these traits are heightened, intensified and powered up--and it makes for a riveting wine. Today, I'm delighted to present a new allocation of Livio Sassetti Pertimali's drop-dead gorgeous 2015 Brunello di Montalcino, a wine that captures its insanely good growing vintage with purity, poise, and power. This 2015 Brunello is muscular but lithe, bursting with sweet fruit but loaded with savory notes, and fresh with acidity but chewy with tannins. You're going to love it. In fact, I'd urge you to buy more than one bottle of this Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello because you're going to want to drink it again and again.

Enjoy!

Livio Sassetti Pertimali Brunello di Montalcino 2015 750ml
Price: $79.99

Ripe, rich red and blue berries mingle with savory notes like truffles, tobacco and earth, floral notes of violet petals, and minerally notes like pencil lead in this subtly kaleidoscopic ’15 Brunello from Livio Sassetti Pertimali. 2015 is a benchmark Brunello vintage, and this wine showcases its elegant, chewy tannins, vivid acidity, and sweet fruits with its core of savory minerals and earth. Caressing and textured, this beautifully structured Brunello needs a couple of years in the cellar before true enjoyment, but it will drink for decades to come. Deriving from the estate's southeastern-facing, clay and limestone vineyards on Montosoli hill in Brunello's northern subzone, the biodynamically grown grapes for this Brunello ferment for about two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and the wine ages for three years in botti, followed by six months in bottle before release. more info
