Smokey minerals, toasted hazelnuts, pressed white flowers, vanilla and spices frame the juicy orchard fruits in this delectable ’18 Chardonnay. Round in the mouth, this wine finds energy in its savory mineral core and vivid acidic spine. Whole clusters of Chardonnay grapes ferment for about three days in temperature-control stainless steel; the wine ages on the lees for eight to twelve months in barrel before light filtration and resting in bottle for three months prior to release.

Masùt da Rive possesses strong ties to Friulian tradition, having been established in 1937 by Antonio Gallo. Nevertheless, in 1979, the estate commenced a new period in its tenure under Fabrizio Silvano (fourth generation), gradually implementing both business operations and viticultural practices that supported modern viability. (Like Tocai Friulano, Masùt da Rive also had some naming difficulties, as an American winery bore the same identity. Its new orientation was formally honored with the adoption of a new name-Masùt da Rive of Fabrizio and Silvano. This transition reached its apex between 1991 and 1992, when Fabrizio eliminated old processes of pruning and training from the regimen. Friuli's modern phase began in the 1960s, when a crisp, clean white became the defining expression not only for Friuli but for the whole of Italy as well. Masùt da Rive honors this exemplar in the vinification of its white portfolio, reserving barrique solely for its Maurus Chardonnay. (The estate's reds, however, are all barrique-aged.)
