A Note from Sergio

You don't miss Silvia Imperato in a crowded room. She's the kind of woman whose strength, intelligence and savvy radiates and announces her presence. In the '70s and early '80s, Silvia succeeded in the male dominated field of high-profile photography, editorial fashion and portraits of the beautiful and the powerful. Then she started making wine at her estate Montevetrano, and today she's succeeded in the mostly masculine world of Italian winemaking. With her mane of hair and flashing dark eyes, she's a warm, honest woman, the kind of person who looks for--and finds--real connections with people, and doesn't tolerate fakeness. Her wines are as powerful, honest, and beautiful as she is.

Today, I'm proud to announce the arrival of the 2010 Montevetrano. This Campanian wine began as a cult classic, but each vintage seems to get better. This most recent vintage shows how its maker doesn't rest on a tried-and-true formula. Silvia, along with her consulting enologist Riccardo Cotarella, tinkers and plays, blends and recalibrates, reconsiders and retools. This vintage will floor you. Always a wine that puts an elegant polish on Campania's wild, untamed and ravishing beauty, this new vintage is even more supple and sexy. You should cellar it, but it'll be hard to restrain yourself from drinking it down right away.
Along with Silvia's 2010 triumph, I'm delighted to present one of IWM's favorite Champagnes, André Clouet Cuvée 1911. It's a small batch serious Champagne, and this is likely one of the final allocations we'll get. Priced at under $90, it's an amazing value. And finally, I'm really pleased to present new allocations of Château de la Maltroye's amazing Burgundies. Jean-Pierre Cornut is kind of a genius, and these kaleidoscopic, intense wines show his deft hand and attention to detail.
