Some wines are so compelling, so delicious, so outrageously good that I get very excited about putting them in my clients' hands. This is the case with the 2012 Messorio from Le Macchiole. This Merlot wows in almost every vintage, but 2012 was a special year in Toscana. It was as if Bacchus himself designed 2012 to gift winemakers with the raw materials to make outrageous bottles of wine. The '12 Messorio is stellar--it's a welterweight boxer that punches you with elegance. It's a knockout, and I know you're going to love it.
The other wines in today's offer are Burgundies. First, there's a new release of an IWM client favorite, François Gay 2014 Corton-Renardes. People who love an animalistic Pinot Noir love this wine; it slinks across your palate with an almost feline grace. Finally, I've chosen to offer seven cult wines from Sylvain Cathiard. Coming from 2011 and 2013, these Cathiard Burgundies are the opposite of the 2012 Messorio: rather than showing what a great winemaker can make with a great vintage, they show what a great winemaker can wrest from challenging years. These Cathiard Burgundies are incredible.
