A Note from Sergio
In just a couple of days most of us will be gathered around a table with our loved ones eating what is probably America's most distinctive meal, Thanksgiving. In getting ready for your Thanksgiving festivities, you or your family probably have plenty of last-minute shopping going on right now. Where to get the turkey, yams, and cranberries? Who's going to bake the pies? And which wine is the right wine?Today's Featured Sections Include:
Wine people love this time of year, packed with holidays, because they get a chance to prove their skills and play the food-and-wine matching game. Holiday meals offer thousands upon thousands of wines that would be perfect--or not! So how do you know which wine to pick, and what if you pick the wrong one? Every book quotes the clichés: "match like flavors" or "what grows together goes together." But most consumers, those people who don't taste wine for a living, don't know what a wine tastes like before they've opened a bottle, sniffed and sipped. I mean, even Chardonnay has at least as many styles as there are vineyard that grow it.
Here is my advice to my friends: Wine should be fun, especially during the holidays. It shouldn't be work. You shouldn't have to stress about it. But know that every bottle of wine, like food, has a time and place when it is most appealing. That's why I suggest you leave the pairing game to the sommeliers who spend twelve-hour days six days a week creating matches--or, alternatively, you explore on your own and accept that sometimes you'll make a bad match (while other times you'll find extraordinary pairings). Today's eLetter lets you take either route. You'll find more than 260 wines, all at special pricing. Pick your own wines for your holiday season, or ask an IWM portfolio manager to help you. Either way, you'll have fun!
