Must-Have Sangiovese from Fontodi!
November 7, 2018
A Note from Sergio

In many ways, Fontodi's Vigna del Sorbo embodies Chianti Classico's triumphant history. Only three or four decades ago, Chianti was this toss-away drink sold in gimmicky straw-wrapped bottles (fiasco in Italian, and the pun is lost on no one). Sangiovese was treated like a workhorse when all along it really was a thoroughbred. Then Tuscan producers like Montevertine and Fontodi had a vision. They wanted to raise Sangiovese and, in Fontodi's case, Chianti Classico to worldwide esteem. So Montevertine made Le Pergole Torte, and Fontodi created Flaccinanello--and a couple of years later, Fontodi made Vigna del Sorbo, a wine that proudly wears the new Chianti Classico designation Gran Selezione.

Today, I'm very happy to present a new allocation of Fontodi's beautiful, refined 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Del Sorbo. It's not a stretch to call this wine the insider's Sangiovese. Once, when this Chianti Classico just had a Riserva designation, it held a small component of Cabernet Sauvignon, but now that it's a Gran Selezione wine, it delivers pure Sangiovese elegance that ages beautifully. It's a gorgeous Chianti that flows like silk, even in a classic "sleeper" vintage like 2014. Don't miss this new Vigna del Sorbo allocation--we've sold through this Fontodi wine twice before, and this new allotment is sure to go fast!
