“The Montrachet of the Southern Rhône” from the 450+-Year-Old Chateau with 120-Year-Old Vines.
October 14, 2020

“Unquestionably the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône.” The Pinnacle of Traditional Châteauneuf du Pape from the 450+-Year-Old Chateau Delivers the Near-Perfect Blanc from 120-Year-Old Vines. Just Ten Cases.

“The 2019s will be a step up over the 2018s and
offer more depth, concentration, and richness, all while showing considerable purity of fruit and elegance.”
- Jeb Dunnuck

“One of the great estates of France, a bastion of traditionalism in the southern Rhone….”
– Robert Parker

If the Mastroberardino Taurasi is synonymous for the wines of Campania and Southern Italy, then there is one wine that can sum up the wines of the Rhône Valley and Southern France - Château de Beaucastel. It is simple, Beaucastel is synonymous with Châteauneuf-du-Pape, delivering classic renditions from this world-class appellation for five generations. And if you have to buy one signature red each vintage, it should undoubtedly begin with Beaucastel. It is another one of those symbolic bottles that immediately recalls the wines of the Pope’s second home. In addition to being the most famous wine of the region, Château de Beaucastel is also one of the oldest estates in the appellation dating all the way back to 1549, when the family’s first stake in the Rhône came to be. It is generally the preferred trade favorite alongside Château Rayas.

But today, we are coming to you not with a focus on the red, but rather the great whites of Beaucastel and the Rhone. It is one of the pinnacle expressions of Roussane from the region, it is none other than the
2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc Roussanne Vieilles Vignes. It is 100% Roussanne in all its exotic beauty and comes from a three-hectare parcel of vines planted in 1901. The wine tends to be richer, creamier and longer than Beaucastel's flagship white Châteauneuf-du-Pape, but also fresher and brinier. We are not alone, the Rhône Ranger himself, Jeb Dunnuck, have just retasted the 2019 Roussanne Vieilles Vignes, stating, “it’s unquestionably the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône and a magical white.” It is a wine that can command up to $199 a bottle, and we are pleased to present this at just $179 when you buy six bottles or more. A mere 500 cases are produced for the world and we receive just five cases of this difficult to find release.

Additional Notes and Reviews:

2019 Beaucastel Chateauneuf Du Pape Blanc

95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck: “While the old-vine Roussanne cuvée from this estate gets all the attention from collectors, don’t make the mistake of discounting their classic Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc. The 2019 reveals a lighter gold hue as well as a beautiful and classic bouquet of honeyed citrus, quince, white flowers, bee’s wax, and a touch of flinty minerality. Playing in the medium to full-bodied end of the spectrum, it has flawless balance, nicely integrated acidity, and a great, minerally finish. You can enjoy bottles today with a decant or cellar for two to three decades, if you’re so inclined.”

2019 Beaucastel Chateauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes
99 Points, Jeb Dunnuck:
“One of my favorite whites in the world is the old vine Roussanne cuvée from Beaucastel, which comes from a single 3-hectare parcel just outside the domaine, in the northern, cooler part of Châteauneuf du Pape. The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes is another thrilling example of Roussanne and offers a vivid gold hue as well as gorgeous notes of white currants, honeysuckle, white flowers, crushed stone, and hints of gunpowder. With beautiful freshness, full-bodied richness, and ample power, it’s unquestionably the Montrachet of the Southern Rhône and a magical white. You can safely drink bottles anytime over the coming decade, then it’s best forgotten until around 20 years after the vintage.”

2019 Beaucastel Chateauneuf Du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes
97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck:
“Bottled at the same time, the 2018 Condrieu La Doriane is a bigger, more luxurious version of the appellation release. Beautiful quince, acacia flowers, apricot, and spice notes emerge from the glass and it builds beautifully on the palate, with medium to full body, integrated acidity, and flawless overall balance. It shows the soft, sexy side to the vintage and is best enjoyed over the coming 4-6 years.”
