Valentini’s Superb 2015 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Debuts!
October 29, 2019
A Note from Sergio

Of the multitudes of wines, there's only a handful of bottles that make you sit back and ask with wonder, "What is that?" It's a mysterious quality--that thing that pulls you back to the glass to smell the liquid, again and again, always finding something fresh and inexplicable. And it's a quality that Valentini's wines have: that indefinable essence that makes them outstanding. Valentini makes fewer than 3,500 cases a year; to give some perspective, that's a modest number for one vintage's bottling of one wine, so the output of each of the estate's three wines is extremely low. The very definition of a cult producer, Valentini makes incredible, rare, extraordinary wines; they're wines that are people you can't wait to meet again.

Today, I'm very proud to debut Valentini's mind-bendingly good 2015 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. There's not a lot of Trebbiano available outside of Italy, and there is one very compelling reason for it: in general, Trebbiano is not much of a grape. It's often used to add a little something-something in blends, or it's vinified in a passito method to make a sweet wine--and that's it. But put Trebbiano in Valentini's hands, and it becomes otherworldly, fascinating, and shimmering with mystical flavors. It's insanely difficult to get Valentini's wines. They're snapped up before release by the estate's many cultish fans. If you have never had the exceptional opportunity to enjoy Valentini's Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, jump on today's 2015--it's an astonishing wine.

Enjoy!

Valentini’s 2015 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo is devastatingly good. Copious layers of stone, tropical, and citrus fruits seamlessly meld with wild herbs, saline minerals, pressed wildflower petals, and sun-warmed earth in this irrationally beautiful wine. This powerfully complex Trebbiano glides across the palate with a creamy silkiness, animated by its vivid acidity and elegant mineral core. You’re going to want to drink the exceptional ’15 Trebbiano right away, but a couple years in the cellar will reveal the true beauty of this dazzling wine. Valentini crafts this Trebbiano using very traditional methods, including fermentation with indigenous yeasts in glass-lined cement tanks and extended aging in neutral oak botti, aged at least 70 years. While you could drink this outstanding Trebbiano upon release, it’ll age for upwards of a decade, possibly longer. more info
