A Specially Priced Case of Fiorano’s Rare White Diamonds!
October 4, 2019
A Note from Sergio

Longtime clients know this story, but it's such a remarkable moment in my life that I must tell it again and again. Prince Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi, a member of the Antinori clan, was an under-the-radar winemaker, quietly crafting visionary reds and whites from his tiny pocket of vines at his estate that was located within the ancient walls of Rome. Ludovisi very rarely sold his wines to the public, preferring to store them in his own cellar and keep them for private use. As Ludovisi neared the end of his life, he tore up his vineyards to assure that his vines would not end up in the wrong hands. The prince then entrusted his private cellar to the iconoclastic wine and food writer Luigi Veronelli so that he could place the bottles with people who would love the prince's wine and keep his story alive.

Veronelli honored me with the challenge of fulfilling his promise to the prince, and I have taken this promise seriously. I have worked hard to ensure that the prince's wish continues at IWM, and I've endeavored to put these original, singular wines in the hands of clients who would appreciate them. Today, I'm excited to present a rare case of Fiorano's rare, mature whites, both the mystical Bianco, a Malvasia, and the magical mono-varietal Sémillon. Each of these wines is its own entity, labeled with its aging barrel, and each is an unforgettable journey to a long ago time and a faraway land, ruled by a prince. These Fiorano whites date from 1986 to 1995, and each one of them gleams like a perfectly cut jewel--they seem to be almost eternal, even as they layer their youthful fruits and acidity with oxidized elements.

Lucky are the wine-lovers who put this Fiorano case in their cellars--enjoy!

The wines of the late Prince Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi created a phenomenon for their ability to age. However, to ensure that his legacy would not be misrepresented, Ludovisi destroyed his vineyards, passing his private cellar to Italian food and wine critic Luigi Veronelli and entrusting him to find individuals who could keep his vision alive.
