In the outstanding 2016 vintage, Aldo Conterno’s Il Favot Langhe Nebbiolo performs like a “baby Barolo.” Bursting with succulent red and blue fruits, new leather, licorice, rose petals, cigar wrapper and earth, this wine awards the senses with Barolo’s telltale perfumes and its ethereal mouth-feel. While not as structured as a Barolo, the ’16 Il Favot Langhe Nebbiolo nonetheless captures some of Barolo’s ethereal nature, filling the mouth with textured tannins as it slowly reveals myriad flavor notes and builds to a lingering finish. Deriving from younger Nebbiolo vines grown in various vineyards in Monforte d’Alba, the grapes ferment in stainless steel for about eight days, and the wine ages for five or six months in stainless steel, followed by eighteen months in barrique, all new.

Aldo Conterno was known as the “King of Barolo” in Italy, and upon his passing in May 2012, the wine world lost not only a pioneer and a visionary but also a man of great dignity and grace. Fortunately, Aldo trained his three sons in his footsteps so that the estate will not merely perpetuate but flourish, as befits Aldo’s legacy. Situated in Monforte d'Alba in the prized Bussia Soprano vineyard in the heart of the Barolo region of Serralugna, Conterno family has been producing and aging the great Piemontese wines for more than five generations. The late, great Aldo left his brother at his father's cellar (the legendary Giacomo Conterno estate) in 1969 to pursue his own winemaking interests and reputation to create the wines of Poderi Aldo Conterno in the "Favot" cellar. While Giacomo produces the more traditional style of the two Conterno brothers’ estates, Poderi Aldo Conterno’s wines are not considered modern. Aldo Conterno’s policy of producing only the highest quality wines while mixing tradition with innovation helps make sterling Barolos that both connoisseurs and critics alike love unabashedly.
