A blend of 90% Sangiovese with the rest composed of Colorino and Canaiolo, the Montevertine Rosso derives mostly from a single six-acre south-southwest facing vineyard planted in 1982. Made in traditional Chianti fashion--fermented in cement vats for about three weeks followed by aging in Slavonian barrels for about two years--Montevertine Rosso is at its essence one of the most pure Chiantis from the maker of the most collectable mono-varietal Sangiovese Super-Tuscan wine, Le Pergole Torte.

You’ll want to drink this ’15 Barbera right away, but if you cellar it for a half decade or longer, your patience will be rewarded. The first fine Barbera bottling from the estate in 1982, Bricco dell'Uccellone derives from very ripe old-vine fruit grown in the vineyard of the same name in Rocchetta Tanaro; the wine ferments in temperature-controlled tanks for twenty days and ages for 15 months in barrique, followed by a year in bottle.

Antinori Tignanello 1983 750ml
Price: $225.00
Currently Unavailable.

Belying its thirty-plus years of maturity, this ’83 Tignanello bursts with energy and power; it began as a very structured wine, and the decades have mellowed the edges of this Tignanello. Pure red and blue fruits dance with sun-warmed earth, worn saddle leather, truffle, black tea, crushed rose petals, and balsamic herbs in this vintage Super Tuscan that marries its maturity with freshness. Gliding across the palate with grace, this Tignanello scatters dusty tannins as it suffuses the palate with a round, soft mouth-feel. Tignanello didn't become the blend we know and love it to be--80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc--until 1982, more than a decade after its debut and one year after winemaker extraordinaire Renzo Cotarella came to work at Antinori; this ’83 Tignanello is only the second bottling of the wine with its classic composition.
