Maker Davide Rosso found inspiration in his mother, Ester, for his knockout cru Langhe Nebbiolo Ester Canale Rosso; this wine derives from the famed Vigna Rionda plot, which has been in Ester’s family since 1934. Crisp, refined red and blue fruits cavort against a backdrop of violet petals, sun-warmed herbs, baking spices, earth, salty licorice, and a touch of stone fruits in this captivating ’15 Langhe Nebbiolo. Silky, fine-grained tannins coat the cheeks as electric acidity propels this wine to a lingering finish of saline minerals. Elegant and finessed, this Langhe Nebbiolo gives a tantalizing taste of the estate’s cult-inspiring, low-production Barolo Vigna Rionda; this Langhe Nebbiolo is an age-worthy wine that will blossom with time.
