Cantalupo Rosato Il Mimo 2016 750ml
A beautiful coppery pink in the glass, this ‘16 Rosato wafts with currants, strawberries, and raspberries; rose petals, truffles, licorice and earth provide subtle balance. Full-bodied and luscious, this wine unfolds with surprising complexity and a voluptuous mouth-feel--it might very well be your new favorite rosé! Deriving from a trio of Piemontese vineyards (Breclema, Carella, and Valera) with alluvial soils marked by sand and minerals, this mono-varietal Nebbiolo rosato has contact with skins for one day before separation and fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks; the wine ages in stainless steel to highlight terroir and grape typicity.
Sandro Fay Rosso di Valtellina Tei 2012 750ml
Soft, fruity, and round, this Rosso is Sandro Fay’s calling card to the estate’s unusual northern Italian Valtellina terroir. Juicy red and black berries, wildflowers, cedar, and fresh-cut herbs burst on the nose, while the palate is light, tart, and delicious--this is an easy-drinking red! This blend of 90% Nebbiolo with the remainder composed of Merlot, Brugnola, Rossola and Pignola derives from a south-facing vineyard and ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel and ages in oak barrels.
Mamete Prevostini Rosato Monrose 2016 750ml
Its name means “rosé of the mountains,” and this delicate blush wine reveals its high altitude terroir in its nose of tart red fruits, citrus zest, violet petals, crushed river rocks, and rosehips. The 2016 bottling balances its vibrant acidity with a silky mouth-feel, and, driven by nice minerality, its lingering finish is elegant and satisfying. A mono-varietal Nebbiolo deriving from the estate’s organically tended vineyards in Valtellina, the grapes macerate on the skins for just eight hours before aging in tank for six months.
De Forville Nebbiolo d'Alba San Rocco 2013 750ml
Succulent Nebbiolo fruit, delicate rose petals and violets, a dip into the spice box, a touch of sun-warmed earth, and a kiss of eucalyptus dance in the nose of this wine from De Forville. While this structured, sophisticated ’13 Nebbiolo drinks more like a Barolo than a Barbaresco, it’s nonetheless approachable, wrapping your palate with its fine-grained tannins as it glides to a lingering finish. Deriving from vines grown in various vineyard sites in the hilltop commune of San Rocco d’Elvio, this cuvée ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel and matures in wooden casks for more than a year before bottling.
Parusso Langhe Nebbiolo Rosato 2017 750ml
Bright, pure red fruits dance against a backdrop of saline minerals, crushed wildflower petals, and kisses of spice and earth in this caressing, energetic Rosato. A sweet inner perfume of cherries and berries finds its complement in the savory minerals that propel this beguiling wine to a harmonious finish. Deriving from various Langhe vineyards that sport sandy, limestone-rich soils, the Nebbiolo grapes for this wine ferment in stainless steel, and the wine ages for six months in stainless steel before resting in bottle for a month prior to release.
Donnas Vallee d'Aosta Rosso 2010 750ml
Tangy, silky, balanced and lithe, this ’10 Alpine Rosso offers tremendous bang for its buck. A blend of 85% Picotendro (the local name for Nebbiolo) and the rest split up between local varieties Freisa and Neyret, this wine complements its dusty tannins from the Nebbiolo with juicy, pure red fruit, provided by the other two components. Grown in rocky soils on steep slopes, this Rosso is considered to be the Barolo or Barbaresco of Vallee d’Aosta. Aged for at least two years in 25 HL oak casks, the wine gives a beautiful nose full of violets and dried cherries followed with forest smoke, and as it opens in the glass, coffee mixes with minerality, showing the terroir of a wine deriving from vineyards carved out of the rocky Alps. Bright, elegant and surprisingly full-bodied, this ’10 Rosso could be your new summertime go-to red.
Giovanni Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo 2015 750ml
Rose petals, Christmas spices, black licorice, and a touch of earth frame the juicy red and blue fruits in this drink-me-now ’15 Langhe Nebbiolo. Ideal for Barolo enthusiasts who can’t wait (or those want early access to the stellar 2015 vintage), this silky Nebbiolo glides across the palate; chewy tannins cling to the cheeks as the wine builds to a delicious, lively finish. Deriving from younger Nebbiolo vines grown in Serralunga, grapes for this wine ferment with only wild yeasts for about two weeks in concrete, and the wine ages in oak barrels for six months to a year before bottling.
Mamete Prevostini Sassella Valtellina Superiore 2014 750ml
Juicy, tart red and blue berries dance with violet petals, licorice, baking spices, fresh earth and a dusting of white pepper in this mineral-laden, elegant ’14 Sassella Valtellina. An early-drinking, elegant Nebbiolo bottling, this wine whooshes across the palate with electric acidity, building to a lingering finish that’s full of minerality and fine-grained tannins. Deriving from vineyards in Triasso, this wine’s Nebbiolo grapes ferment on the skins for about two weeks, and the wine ages for a year in oak barrels, followed by ten months in bottle.
Renzo Seghesio Ruri Langhe Nebbiolo 2012 750ml
The product of a warm vintage, this ’12 Ruri Langhe Nebbiolo bursts with red cherry, dried roses, violets, mild baking spices, marjoram, and a hint of smokiness. Silky and smooth, this wine unfolds on the palate to reveal cherry candy, leather and spices; it finishes with grippy tannins that can only come from Nebbiolo. Made from grapes grown on the estate’s more youthful vines, this "Baby Barolo" offers telltale Nebbiolo aromatics, flavors and tannins but at a fraction of the price and with immediate gratification. Grapes ferment in temperature-controlled tanks; the wine ages in barrel for nine months, followed by about six months in bottle before release.
Nervi Gattinara 2013 750ml
Supple, juicy and shockingly pure, the ’13 Gattinara layers its ripe red and blue berries with smoky minerals, crushed herbs, warm baking spices and freshly turned earth. This wine almost shimmers on the palate, energized by fresh acidity and powered by a sturdy mineral core; a sweet inner nose morphs into a savory, satisfying finish that lingers beautifully. Deriving from a trio of Nervi’s vineyards, this wine’s Nebbiolo grapes ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel; the wine ages for three years in barrique, followed by time in cement and in bottle before release.
